Baidu have demoed chopsticks which will detect whether the oil in the food has been re-used and might be tainted. Whilst in the west we might say “errr…WTF?” this does solve a specific issue. China has faced a series of food hygiene and safety issues of late and anything that provides feedback to the dinner is no bad thing.

Google to refund $19 million to parents

You know those people who give their kids a tablet with their credit card details saved in the Play store, then wonder why they’ve run up a bill of thousands of dollars? Well their about to get a refund. Probably best to remove the tablet…or the credit card.

Why do Android apps need so many permissions?

This is one of my personal bugbears. Why do apps need so many permissions? It seems that even the most basic app wants access to your call log and contact details. GARGH!
