Texting and driving is a very dangerous practice that has led to increased accidents and deaths. Many States are enacting strict no texting laws to help cut down on the problem. But we all love to use our phones and have an addiction to respond when ever we get a text. Today we are going to help you be safer and setup a cool way to respond to text automatically while driving. For an added bonus this method will also read out the text to you as well through your bluetooth speaker. Now some phones have this feature built-in but we’re going to do this using Tasker.
If you don’t know about the Tasker app then buckle in because it is one of the most powerful apps for Android. Tasker is like its own programming language living inside your phone and it will let you automate almost anything you want. For example, I have my phone setup to automatically silence my phone at night during the week. I also have it lower my ringer volume during work and also turn off WiFi if I’m not at home or work. Now there are apps that will do some of these task but only Tasker can do all of those and more in one app. But there is a hug learning curve to using the app and that’s why we’re going to ease you into it with this auto text app.
The Tasker profile that I will provide is set up to auto text a person back a message when your phone is connected to your car’s bluetooth. You can technically setup Tasker to detect your speed and know that you are driving but that’s more batter intensive. Most people these days connect their phone to the car so this is a great way to trigger the auto text. The profile is also setup to readout loud the text and who sent it. So you can get the message and know that the person on the other end has been informed that you are driving.
All you have to do is download Tasker then import the below Tasker profile into the app. Then you can customize the auto text message to send what you want. You need to change the name of the bluetooth connection to your car. You can find your car’s bluetooth name in the bluetooth settings of your phone (mine is Mazda). You can change the setting in the xml file before you import it or in the app after it has been imported. I hope this will be useful for many people and it will get your started in using Tasker.
