Flipboard: Finally Supports Tablets

There are currently a few options for magazine style apps but the top two would have to be Google’s Currents and Flipboard. Google just recently updated the Currents app with a modern layout for tablets which was a vast improvement. Flipboard did not have any tablet support at all and to stay competitive they just recently updated the app to work with Android tablets. I really like Flipboard and think it’s probably one of the best news magazine apps. The tablet update is amazing and they really got it right.

Flipboard combines many options that makes it a great magazine style app. The fonts and layouts are great and of course there is the actually flipping of pages. The great thing about Flipboard is that not only can you find many news, sports, and entertainment information but you can add your personal social accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Google Reader, and more. This makes it a once stop app for all your needs.

The new tablet UI for Flipboard is amazing and really uses the larger real estate on a tablet. On one page you can see from two to three articles in both portrait and landscape mode. You can quickly flip through the articles and it really make it feel like a paper magazine. The flipping of pages might seem superficial but there is something familiar and comfortable about it. One very useful change in the tablet addition is that when you are reading an article you can flip to the next article. In the phone version you need to go back to the main article page in order to find the next article. Therefore, on a tablet you can literally flip from one story to the other. Overall, Flipboard has done a great job with this tablet update so be sure to give it a try and let us know what you think.
