The TED conference was started in 1984 and held at Monterey, California and has grown ever since. Currently there are two annual meeting in California and a global conference in the UK. TED is a non-profit that centers around the concepts technology, entertainment, and design with ideas worth spreading. Some of the most influential and powerful people in the world have given talks at TED. Previously you had to attend the conference to listen to the talks but now they are offered as videos. Taking that a step further the TED conference has released their first Android app so you can watch all the videos on the convenience of your tablet.
The TED conference app has a simple and effective layout geared towards videos. There are multiple ways to search and find the videos that most interest you. The main three heading are Featured, All Talks, and My Talks. The Featured section has options for new and popular. In All Talks you can filter by tags, themes and most popular. Talks that you bookmark will be saved in My Talks. There is also a search button if you’re looking for something specific.
The videos pages shows a small excerpt about the talk with an option to download and watch later. There is the usual sharing option to social sites and built-in apps on your device. The videos are high quality and I had no issues playing any of them. This is the kind of app that works really well on a large tablet. Overall the TED app has a clean UI that puts all the videos at your fingertips for free. Download the TED app and enjoy all the talks by the some of the most influential people in the world.
