Fandango Movies for Tablets

This week Fandango finally released a tablet app for Android. They are definitely late to the game but at least they got it right. In case you don’t know, Fandango allows you to view currently playing movies and purchase tickets for your local theater. In high volume places like New York this can a life saver so you don’t go to the movies only to discover that it’s sold out. But the Fandango app is more than just purchasing tickets as it’s a great way to check out movies, previews, and more.

When you first open the Fandango app you are met with a beautiful and visual appealing tiles of currently playing movies in theaters. The graphics are  high quality and just looks fantastic on a big tablet screen. What’s great about the app is that all the information that you need are on this page without being intrusive and overwhelming. You can filter movies by popularity, fan rating, critic rating, and release date using the drop down menu. Just as easily movies can be filtered by drama, action, suspense, IMAX, 3D, and more. You can also see future movie releases by clicking the “coming soon” on the top bar.

The top bar display a horizontal scroll-bar that shows your local theaters with their distance based on your current GPS location. Clicking on any theater takes you to a new page with the movies being played and options to purchase. Clicking on any movie takes you it perspective page with synopsis , local theaters and widgets. There are three widgets tiles that you can scroll through that include cast members, trailers + clips, and photos. This the first time I have seen widgets being used inside an app and wonder why it hadn’t been done before. I tested and found that the movie clips worked with no issues on my tablet. The app also has an interesting page called the “The Pulse” which displays a map of the U.S. that updates live with movies that are being purchased on Fandango. Maybe not necessarily very useful but fun to see what america is watching. Overall, this is a great app by Fandango that you are sure to enjoy.

Download from the Android Market.

On Kindle Fire download from the Amazon Appstore.
