Tango Voice & Video Calls

Tango is an app that allows free voice and video calls with other Tango users. It is a cross platform app therefore allowing voice and video calls across apple and android devices. Once installed, it will automatically find and add all your friends that are Tango users from you phone book. This is a nice feature and saves you lots of time from emailing/texting your friends. Unfortunately the app does not support group video chats and I have found the latest version to a bit buggy on the tablet. The video quality is okay over 3g and much better over 4g and wifi. Nevertheless, this is one of the few options for video calls on tablet devices.

The only other video chat methods available on tablets is Google’s native bulit in app, Google Talk, and Fring group video calls. Fring has the advantage of being the only app to support group video calls. Skype now supports video calls on most Android devices but tablet are not supported. Hopefully Skype will get their act together soon, since they have the larges number of users. The large screen tablet format is a great tool for video chatting, and we all look forward to further software development in this area.

You can download the app from the Android Market or the Amazon Appstore. Try it out and let us know how it’s working on your device.

This app is not compatible with the Kindle Fire.
