Cal: New and Beautiful Calendar App

A calendar is a very important app for me and something I use to organize my life. I usually have a widget on my home screen so I can quickly get my calendar information. Although I use Google Calendar, I think the Android app is not the best. There is also a lot more to be desired for the widget which is what I use a lot. So that’s why I was very excited when the team behind the Any.do task app released a new calendar app. It’s not perfect but it’s visually beautiful and it’s got a great widget. Let’s take a closer look at the app.

The first and most important feature of Cal is that it integrate with Google Calendar. If you are logged in with your account then it automatically imports and syncs with your Google account and also works with Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL, and iCloud. That’s the first and most important part. If you also use the Any.do task app then it can also integrate with that as well. In the Cal app, appointment are loaded with beautiful high quality background images. The images are based on different categories and you can choose which category gets displayed.

The app shows week view in portrait mode and month view in landscape. Right now there is no option to change the views in different layouts and is something that probably needs to get added to the app. Individual appointments are displayed with each section as its own block. You have the appointment and time in one block  and underneath there is another block with location that includes maps and a navigate button. The direct navigate is a great feature and time saver. Underneath the location tap you have the options for sharing, notes, alarm, refresh, and trash.

The widget is probably my favorite and the reason I’ll keep using the app. I really like the clean white look as compared to the Google Calendar blue design which is distracting. The Cal widget shows the current day in bright red that really contrast nicely with the white background. You have the next days in grey with the writing in black. The widget shows the information in a much cleaner design and is easy to look format. I really love the app and have been using it since its release. Those are the basics so checkout the app and let us know what you think.
