Facebook made a big splash last week with the release of the Android Facebook Home launcher and their updated Facebook Messenger with Chat Heads. The launcher so far is not getting the greatest reviews with a meager 2.4 ratings in the Play Store. That’s mostly due to the fact that it takes away all the usual Android launcher customization. On the other hand, Facebook Messenger app with Chat Heads is getting rave reviews and I personally love it. But I’m a big Google Voice user and wasn’t sure if it was compatible. After some testing I’m glad to report that Chat Heads works great with Google Voice on Sprint and we are going to show you how to set it up.
This integration works if you have your Google Voice and Mobile number integrated on Sprint network. Otherwise text message from Chat Heads will use your mobile number.
The first things that you need to do is to make sure that Facebook Messenger app is updated and you are logged in with your Facebook account. Now go into the Messenger app setting and under ‘Notifications’ make sure to Chat Heads is checked. Then in the ‘SMS/MMS’ setting make sure to check ‘Enable text messaging’ box. Now you are setup to receive text messages through the Facebook Chat Heads.
Now to complete the process go to your Google Voice setting under ‘Sync and notifications’. Under the ‘Receive text messages’ setting choose the ‘Via the messaging app’ option. That’s it your are done and now will receive all text messages through the Facebook Chat Heads. What is great is that everything is synced across Google Voice and Chat Heads. So all your text messaging will still show up and be saved on Google Voice app as well.. I’m loving Chat Heads big time so give it a try and let us know what you think.
