Today the newest Google TV setup box, Asus Qube Cube is now available for purchase. Although Google TV hasn’t really taken off with the general public I’m actually a big fan. I bought the original Logitech Revue which wasn’t a great device but I’m still using it and it’s going strong. For those not familiar, Google TV not only allows you to have a web-connected TV but integrates with your existing Cable TV subscription. What makes that great is that it can search shows and movies across YouTube, Cable TV, Amazon, and Netflix. Now, the latest update also adds voice search as well.
The new Asus Cube is similar to hardware with the other Google TV setup boxes with the obvious difference that it’s shaped like a cube. It also come with 50GB of cloud storage from Asus which is nice if you have lots of your own movies that you want to store and watch from Cube. The price is pretty competitive at $139 which is only slightly higher than most of the boxes that are selling at $99 right now.
Other notable difference with the Cube is that it comes loaded with its own special interface. As you can imagine the user interface is cube shaped which is pretty different from the other setup boxes. Google TV definitely needs its own special UI in my opinion since a TV is different from a computer or tablet. I’m not sure if the Cube UI is the right one but I haven’t had a chance to test it in person so I won’t yet comment on it. But the Cube definitely looks interesting and early reviews have been good. So checkout the Asus Cube and let us know what you think in the comment section.
