The tablet market is overheating these days with the new Google Nexus 10, iPad mini, and Kindle Fire HD. Finally, today Amazon is shipping their new Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ in 16 GB and 32 GB options. This is just the WiFi version with the 4G mobile not yet available. The tablet boast very good specs with a 1920 x 1200 HD display with polarizing filter and anti-glare technology. You also get Dual-core 1.5GHz OMAP4470 with Dolby audio and dual stereo speakers.
No doubt this is a great tablet at a good price, but the main drawback is the highly customized version of Android that forces you into the Amazon ecosystem. This was successful with their past tablet but now the competition is much better. Specially Google’s Nexus 7 and new Nexus 10 tablet which I think put the most pressure on Amazon. I personally like and use Amazon services but I don’t want a tablet in which I can’t access Google Play Store or install standard Google apps like Gmail, Maps, and more. So it remains to be seen if the expansion of the Amazon tablet line will do well or flounder. Either way I think Amazon is in it for the long haul when it comes to tablets since it’s a great way to sell all their stuff to millions of users. Let us know your experience with Amazon tablets and if you agree.
