Sony Xperia Tablet S

Sony finally announced their next generation tablet called the Sony Xperia Tablet S. It comes with the same unique magazine wedge design as their first tablet with some upgraded hardware. You’ll get the latest Nvidia quad-core Tegra 3 processor in a thinner design with a full SD card slot for memory expansion. The tablet is also equipped with an IR blaster for use as a remote which seems to be the new standard. Sony has also announced some nice accessories to complement the tablet like a cover with a built-in keyboard and some unique stands. Is this enough to make the tablet standout in a very crowded field. Ultimately you the consumer will answer that question. Full specs and pre-order links are below.

  • Operating system: Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Sony Tablet S1

Sony decided that they should give their shot at dethroning the Apple iPad and released their tablet last year called the Sony Tablet S. The features are fairly standard except for its look and design. The tablet is thicker at one end then the other which gives it a lighter feel and more stability. It’s equipped with an integrated IR to control your HDTV and DLNA to wirelessly stream music, movies, and photos to your TV or receiver. At this point the tablet is fairly outdated in spec, software, and price compared to newer devices. I would suggest waiting for a new Sony tablet release.

  • Operating system: Android Honeycomb (3.1)
  • Display: 9.4-inch LED-backlit multi-touch screen (1280 x 800 pixels)
  • Processor: Dual-core 1.2 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2
  • Internal storage: 16 GB or 32GB
  • External storage: Full-size SD memory card, up to 32 GB in size (for media exchange only)
  • Cameras: 5-megapixel rear, 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing
  • Connectivity: Wireless-N Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n); Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR (with A2DP stereo audio streaming profile); IR (infrared) remote control functionality
  • Inputs/outputs: 1 MicroUSB, 1 headphone
  • Battery: Lithium-ion (5000 mAh)
  • Dimensions: 9.5 x 6.8 x 0.3 inches
  • Weight: 1.31 lbs
  • Price: $399 for 16 GB; $499 for 32 GB
