There is no doubt that Google has had a tough time expanding their Google Wallet program. If you are not familiar, this is the payment system that is used to play for anything on the Google Play Store. But Google has been trying to expand the program so users can pay for anything with Google Wallet. Initially this was supposed to use NFC on mobile phones but many carriers squashed that deal by siting security concerns and disabling the app. But with the new Android 4.4 KitKat came a Tap & Pay emulator that bypassed the security and app issues and now there is actually a physical Google Wallet card that you can order.
It’s still too early to see how the Google Wallet will work and if it will be useful. Right now you can order it by signing into Google Wallet and going to the Wallet and App section. There you can order the card and have it shipped to your address. At this point it seems that the card will use your Wallet balance. This means you’ll have to use your bank account or credit card on file to fill your balance. This is definitely not idea as it would be better if it linked directly to one of your cards. But it’s a step in the right direction and you can use the Wallet mobile app anytime to add money to it.
You can also use the card debit style which will ask you to enter your wallet pin. You can also withdraw cash at ATM’s from your Wallet balance which also required your pin. Google will not charge you an ATM fees but the ATM usually does have a fee. There is a withdraw or spending limit of limit of $5,000 per 24 hours and it will be accepted anywhere that uses MasterCard® Debit. Well I’m personally excited to try this out and see how it works. I’ve already ordered my card, have you?
