Although the Kindle Fire HDX is an absolute great device in terms of hardware, many people don’t like the Amazon software. One major downfall of that software is the fact that there is no access to the Google Play Store and its huge selection of apps. There are some ways to get those apps on the Kindle but it’s not necessary easy for the average user. That’s why many people like to root their Kindle Fire which then allows the installation of Google Play Store and other modifications. And here at Android Cowboy we extensively cover rooting Kindle Fire devices with tutorials and videos. Today I want to discuss the latest news on rooting the Kindle Fire HDX.
Amazon has always tried to lock their device and prevent rooting but usually its a losing battle. The Android developer community almost always found a way to crack the device. That was the case when the Kindle Fire HDX was first released. Although it took some time, a method for rooting Kindle Fire HDX on firmware 13.3.1 was found along with the 8.9 version on 14.3.1 firmware. Having root allowed not only for installation of Google Play Store but changing the software completely. But it wasn’t long before Amazon fought back.
Quite soon after that first root Amazon released a software update 13.3.2 which broke the root method. And just after that they released another minor update to 13.3.2.2 firmware. There wasn’t much additions noted and it was clear that it was meant to patch the root. And I’m sad to say that it worked very well. Since then it seems that the Amazon patch has held up since no root method has been found. Either Amazon has really good developers on pay or the Android community has lost interest in the Kindle Fire. Either way the result is the same that the Kindle Fire HDX currently cannot be rooted.
But all is not lost as there are third-party app stores like 1mobile in which you can install that gives access to many of the same Google Play Store apps. You can also use another Android device to transfer apps to your Kindle Fire. Although not ideal it can compensate for some of the missing apps. And there is the hope that root maybe be found. You can be sure that here at Android Cowboy we’ll be covering the Kindle Fire and any news. So stay tuned and sign up for our newsletter to keep up with the latest news.
