Acer Reveals the Iconia Tab 7 and Iconia One 7

Today in New York Acer revealed a bunch of new devices including a pair of new Android tablets. Officially we have two budget tablets called the Acer Iconia Tab 7 and the Iconia One 7. There is nothing inherently impressive about these devices although the Icoia Tab 7 comes with phone functionality. So if you’ve been wanting a tablet that can make phone calls then this was your day. Let’s take a closer look at these two device.

The Acer Iconia Tab 7 is a 7 inch tablet weighing in at 0.66 lbs at a slim 0.35 inches. That’s probably going to be important if you plan on making phone calls with this device. It has phone functionality and 3G connectivity. I’m not sure how excited I’m about a tablet that can make phone calls but I guess it’s a nice option. The device has a 1280 x 800 HD IPS display and ships with Android 4.4 KitKat. It will be prices at 149 Euros and should be available in the Latin American markets at the end of June.

The Acer Iconia One 7 is also a 7 inch tablet but does not have the phone functionality. It comes with a dual-core processor and 1280 x 800 HD IPS display. This tablet will ship with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) although it will be upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat. Personally I don’t think any new Android device should ship with anything less than Android 4.4 but that’s just my opinion.  The device will cost $129 and will be available in the Pan American markets at the end of June.

Again nothing earth shattering here but another budget option for the consumer. Maybe the tablet/phone functionality will start a new trend but I would bet against it. Only time will tell. Let us know what you think about these device. Do you want to use you tablet as a phone.
