AirDroid Updated to Version 2

Managing and transferring files from your mobile device to your computer can become cumbersome at times. We have previously covered how to easily and accomplish this task without needing any wires using AirDroid app. The app has been in beta for version 2 for a while now but this weekend it has been finally released in the Google Play Store. The new version brings more speed and improvement along with an easy method for login and remote connection. Let’s take a look at some of the details of the update.

The first thing with the new update is a brand new login feature. Instead of typing in codes like before you can authenticate using your Google, Facebook, or Twitter account. You’ll still need to create a AirDroid account but after that you can just use one of the social Sign in for authentication. This is a lot better and easy way than previously. Another great feature of this login means that you longer have to be on the same network or WiFi. So you can do remote login while on your mobile data. The only limitation is that remote login gives you only 100mb of transfer for the free account and you’ll need to upgrade to premium to get 1GB of data. But this can be handy at times when you are travelling and want to use your laptop to transfer when you can’t be on the same WiFi network.

The look and feel of the app and computer are fairly similar to before. You have some additional tools and features that you can use. There is a handy tool box menu on the right side that let’s you do a few tasks. Before this was just for clipboard and URL but now there is also an apk and files tool.

The files tool let’s you quickly add files or folder to you SD card upload directory. The apk tool is handy to drop in apk files for installation. Many of the other shortcuts on the left side remain the same. You can now add your own folder or contact shortcut. Other features like desktop sms, screenshot, camera, music, ringtones, and others are available as well. There is now an added Find Phone feature as well with the ability to lock your phone and do a remote wipe. Lots of neat features in the update and one of the best apps to use on Android. Give the app a try and let us know what you think in the comment section.

Although AirDroid doesn’t show compatibility with the Kindle Fire, I have tested it and it works with no issues. Download the apk here and sideload the app.
