2012: The Year of Tablets

The year 2012 is coming to a close and it was a super exciting year in technology. Lots of new toys and gadgets were introduced and as expected the big four of Amazon, Google, Samsung, and Apple dominated. I would say that the 2012 tech year can be summarized with tablets being the biggest story. We saw Amazon release an updated Kindle Fire 7″ HD along with a full size Kindle Fire 8.9″ HD tablet. Apple finally decided to also compete in the 7″ tablet market with the iPad mini. And let’s not forget that Google really made a statement earlier in the year with the Asus made Nexus 7 that set the benchmark for all. Then they followed that with the Samsung made Nexus 10 just before the Christmas holiday season.

The trend for 2013 figures to continue with more tablet competition which will spur more innovation. But it is likely that by the end of the 2013 year we will truly find out which tablets will survive the long haul. The market is very saturated with tablets and some will start to drop out of the market. But it is already rumored that Asus is planning on revealing a $99 tablet at CES 2013 which should be something. If the price drop continues then tablets will become household items. I can even see that incorporation in schools and businesses will increase as well.

It should be an exciting year and we here at Android Cowboy will be right along to bring you all the news, info, and app reviews. It has been a great year for Android Cowboy and we hope to make 2013 even better. I hope that everyone has a fantastic and safe New Year and we’ll see you in 2013.
