Acer Iconia Tab A110 Comes October 30th in North America

It seems certain these days that if you are an Android manufacturer then you need to have or release a budget Android tablet. The success of the original Kindle Fire along with the Nexus 7 have fueled the 7 inch budget tablet market. It is highly anticipated that Apple will also enter the market next week with the iPad mini which should really heat things up. Not wanting to be left out of the party, Acer has announced the release of the Acer Iconia Tab A110 for October 30th. What does the Acer tablet offer over the new Kindle Fire HD or Nexus 7? Well, let’s find out.

The good news is that with the Acer Tab A110 you’ll get a quad-core Tegra 3 processor with 1GB RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. The tablet comes with 8GB storage along with a microSD card slot, microHDMI, and microUSB. The expansion slot and peripherals are an obvious advantage over both the Kindle Fire and the Nexus 7. But that’s were the advantages end.

The main flaw is the low resolution screen of 1024 x 600 which is much lower than both the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD 1280 x 800. It also comes with a higher price tag of $230 compared to $199 for the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. There is a front-facing camera for video chats but it boast a much lower battery life as well with only 7.5 hrs. Now, I don’t think this is a terrible tablet  on its own but in competition it doesn’t stand out much. I personally would like to see manufacturers release less devices and concentrate on core products. But hey, competition and choices are supposed to be good for consumers right. Let us know what you think about the Acer tablet and if you plan on buy one.
