If you are someone who travels often then you know that keeping track of your flights, delays, alternative flights, and gate information is very important. Before the technology days you just went to the airport and took your chance with what was happening. These days with so much travel turmoil and cancellation it can be a real headache. But thankfully technology can help in a real way with apps that can track all your flights. One of the better apps that can do all that and more is FlightView.
The FlightView app is optimized both for you phone and tablet so need to download separate apps. The app on a tablet is in landscape mode and has a simple and clean interface. You have three main navigation at the top that include Track Flight, My Trips, and Airports. Under the Track Flight option you can find flights either by the flight # or by the route.
Once you find the desired flight you will enter detail mode. Here there will be a map of the route on the right pane along with weather and flight information on the left-pane. The top-right menu lets you save the flight to your My Trips, share, or get contact number for the airline. Any flight that you save will show up in the My Trips menu with alerts automatically enabled. There are fields to enter optional information like passenger, confirmation number, and trip notes for each saved flight. You can also add a widget to your home screen for quick view of saved trips.
Another great feature in FlightView is the Airports menu with flight boards. Here you will initially see a map of the U.S. with major airports color coded from normal to major delays. You can search for a specific airport on the left-pane and once selected get the flight board information for that airport. This is the same info as the TV sets in the airport that you end up staring at. The flight board option is only available in the elite versions of the app.
In flight boards you can look at arrivals and departures with several options to filter including airport and airline. The list can be sorted by Flight number, departure airport, scheduled arrival, updated arrival, and status. This menu is handy to use when you only have some information about the flight that you wan to find. A feature that is sure to come in handy at times.
Overall, FlightView in my opinion is a great flight tracker app for your Android device. The app can be download both for Android tablets from the Google Play Store or the Kindle Fire from the Amazon Appstore. There are three version of the app that can be downloaded. The free version has ads while for $0.99 you can be ad-free. The elite version cost $3.99 with no ads and adds flight boards, weather, and driving direction to airport.
