We all love to check the latest updates on our social sites or watch some YouTube movies on our tablet. Let’s not forget about all those great games and web surfing. But to truly get the most out of your tablet at some point productivity becomes important. This could be writing important emails, reading work document, and more. There are times that word processing becomes crucial for work or school. There are plenty of options out there for word processing apps like Quickoffice or OfficeSuite but they are expensive and will cost you anywhere from $15-20. What if you just want a basic word processing app but still have important functionality. As the popular saying goes, there is an app for that and it’s JotterPad HD.
JotterPad is a basic word processing app built for Android tablet with a clean and easy interface. I say it’s basic but still has rich features that will make writing easy and simple. The UI is tablet optimized with a left pane with your document list and a right viewing pane. The right pane shows your document along with some basic info like last updated date, backups, and word count. The document font style, size, alignment, width, and spacing can be adjusted.
You can enter edit mode by pressing the pencil button at the top. Here you can go to full screen with screen touch keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard. For heavy editing I would highly recommend connecting a physical keyboard through bluetooth or a dock like the Transformer Prime tablets. If you are using a physical keyboard then the usual shortcut keys will work. There are options to undo and redo along with a night mode. Once you have finished your document there are options to export as a txt or pdf file. More importantly you can sync everything with Dropbox which would be my personal preference. Other cloud services are not currently supported but that might change in the future.
Despite being a minimalistic writing app JotterPad HD provides lots of good function at a low price. I think if you are looking for a simple writing app that gets the job done but is designed well and still has basic function then this might be the way to go. You can try the app for free but many of the functions are only available in the pro version. But you can get a good feel for the app and find out if it suits your needs.
