Unofficial VLC Media Player: Watch Any Media on Kindle Fire or Android Tablet

One of the great benefits of a tablet is the ability to watch high quality videos on a larger screen. This is certainly one thing Amazon had in mind with their Kindle Fire allowing you to watch their Instant Videos. But beyond the Amazon Videos there are a lot more ways to consume and watch videos on the internet. This includes YouTube videos, podcast, streaming content, and your own videos. But one thing that can be frustrating is realizing that not all videos formats play on a given device. It would be great if there was one media player that could handle all formats.

Thanks to the developers at XDA we now have VLC for Android media player. The unofficial VLC app will play just about any media type on almost any android device. This includes the Kindle Fire which I have personally tested. The VLC player works on Gingerbread and ICS devices regardless of custom ROM or official software. On a stock Kindle Fire you’ll need to sideload the app and instruction can be found at this link. There are various version of the app based on your device processor so read the post carefully. I have linked to the original post and also to the correct file for the Kindle Fire (A9 apk version). Test out VLC on your Android tablet and let us know how it’s working.
