App Reviews: Springpad and Reckless Racing 2

Android users can now enjoy the benefits of Springpad on their tablet devices. This is a service that has already been accessible through a browser for some time now, but getting its own dedicated application is definitely a benefit for anyone who has started to get to grips with the service.

If you are unfamiliar with Springpad, it is essentially an alternative to Evernote, the note-taking service which has risen to prominence in recent years. It operates in a similar manner to other social platforms, letting you create a profile and begin to add items at your own pace. The ultimate goal is to use it as a kind of pin board for your ideas, with the option to link up with friends and see what they are up to.

What makes the Springpad app particularly useful is its integration of a comprehensive search function. In short you can type in a search of your choice, whether it is for a DVD or a recipe for fish pie, with Springpad then finding it online and letting you pin it to your profile so that you can access it later.

The location-based functionality means that using the GPS capabilities of your Android tablet will allow Springpad to find out whether an item you have searched for is on sale in your local area. If there are multiple outlets then it will list them all and also let you see the cost, so it is a smart way to shop.

Synchronisation between Springpad and your Google Calendar will allow you to integrate alerts into your Android tablet based on your postings and you can even link it to Facebook, Twitter and other popular services in order to unify your experience of the app.

Springpad is free to download from the Android market and essentially requires that the user learns how to use it properly in order to fulfil its true potential, so it might not be ideal for the impatient.

Download from the Android Market or Amazon Appstore.

Reckless Racing 2

Reckless Racing 2 for Android Tablets

Reckless Racing 2 is not exactly the most practical app for your Android tablet, but it is certainly a good way to kill some time during a journey or while you are waiting for friends.

It follows on from the first game in the series, giving you an overhead 3D view of the action and letting you control miniature cars using touch controls. Graphically this is one of the most impressive racing titles out there.

However, what makes Reckless Racing 2 worthy of your attention is the level of detail you get from the other aspects, such as the car customisation options, race modes and number of different tracks around which you can compete.

The game will look great on your tablet PC and should keep you entertained for hours. If you have been jealously eyeing up Infinity Blade on the iPad then the quality of this title should give you a reason to celebrate Android instead.

Download for $4.99 from the Android Market.
