USA Today: Kindle Fire Edition Has Arrived

USA Today has been available on Android for a while but now it’s arrived on the Amazon Kindle Fire. I have previously included this app as part of my Top News Apps due to the great design and clean interface. It seems that USA Today has not missed a beat in the Kindle Fire edition and continues a similar design. Although the content of USA Today may not be the most in-depth you can still get all your daily headline updates in a great tablet format.

The USA Today app is similar to the Android Market app except the noticeable difference of a grey background on the Kindle Fire. I actually prefer the Android white background and not sure why they changed this for the Kindle Fire. Maybe they wanted some way to distinguish the Kindle Fire app from the Android. The app also doesn’t have the same bright contrasting colors as the Android version but otherwise the app feels the same functionally.

The app works both in landscape and portrait mode but with the Kindle Fire the portrait looks and functions better. In landscape mode you always have a scrolling sidebar articles menu on the left which diminished the reading pane. In portrait mode the articles takes the entire screen and reading is easy. The font size is adequate but there is no option to adjust which would be a nice addition. On the top-left corner there is the menu button which pops up with display of all categories and subcategories. Pictures galleries looked great and the videos played right away without any issues. You can share articles with any of the Kindle Fire built-in apps using the button on the top-right. Overall the app is easy to use and makes browsing and reading a snap. I was a fan of this app on Android and continue to feel the same on the Kindle Fire. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Download from the Amazon Appstore.
