gReader: Best Google Reader RSS Client on Kindle Fire

RSS is a great way to keep up with the immense amount of websites and information on the web. I couldn’t imagine trying to keep up with all the Android and tablet news without a good RSS client. Google Reader is by far one my most used Google apps besides Gmail. Unfortunately, one lacking feature on the Kindle Fire is the absence of native Google apps in the Amazon Appstore. Thankfully there are a lot of app replacements that are as good if not better then Google native apps. One of those apps is gReader which is a fantastic Google Reader RSS client. It’s full featured and you’ll barely realize that you’re not using Google Reader.

The gReader app syncs two-way with your Google Reader account with total item limit option up to 4000. It supports offline reading with feed item limit up to 200. You have options to download full offline content or simplified with or without images and video. There is also a cache that will keep articles with auto cleanup after a set number of days. There are plenty of other customization options with gReader that makes it a great app.

  • Sort feeds alphabetically or by date
  • Article and list font size options
  • Swipe actions (read/unread, start/unstar, save/unsave)
  • Load images and links options
  • Enable plug-ins
  • Dual pane in landscape view
  • Feed thumbnail view
  • Full article web view
  • Rich article list view (snippets + thumbnail)
  • Read It Later and Instapaper services

On the home screen you can view all your feeds or just unread. The star buttons brings a top menu to filter items by podcasts, saved items, starred items or recommended. You can search for news feeds by keyword, URL, topic or browse the preset topic choices. Overall gReader gives you all the features of Google Reader and more on your Kindle Fire for free.
