I love simple games like air hockey, pinball and skee ball but they are hard to find these days. Now we live in a fully digital world and everything is on computers or mobile devices from games to books. Don’t get me wrong I’m a big fan of the digital era but sometimes it’s nice to go back to the basics. Now there is a way to combine both the nostalgia for simple games with the digital world. The Glow Hockey 2 app let’s you play realistic air hockey right on your tablet or Kindle Fire.
Glow Hockey 2 features very realistic physics game play of air hockey. I was fairly amazed how well the puck responded and bounced around the table. The controls are as you would expect with touch to move the paddle which responded sharply. When the puck hits any side it lights up with sound adding a nice visual effect. The glow table is very cool and makes it easy to keep you focused on the puck. You can change both the puck and paddle colors as you desire with several color choices.
What I think is the coolest part of this app is that you can play with 2 players. A 10 inch tablet with a flat surface makes 2 player mode easy and fun. A great way to have fun with friends at home or take it to a party. If somehow you can’t find a friend then you can play the computer AI. There are 4 options from easy to insane which If I found hard and insane to have the most realistic game play and speed. Although the insane level was very difficult and it was rare when I could win but still very fun.
This app works both on the Kindle Fire and other Android tablets. What can be confusing is that the free version of the app is in Android Market while the pro version is in the Amazon Appstore. The pro version gives you 10 tables to choose from rather than the 2 tables in the free version. There is also a championship mode in the pro version. I thought the free version was great and gave you most of what you need but the pro version is only $0.99 and probably worth supporting the developer. Overall a fun game that you can enjoy for many hours by yourself or with friends.
