StumbleUpon was recently updated in the Android Market with a revamped interface and full support for Honeycomb tablets. If you are unfamiliar, StumbleUpon is a web discovery engine that brings the best of the web to you based on your interests. It’s a great way to discover new and interesting news, photos, and videos. Let’s checkout the newly updated StumbleUpon app.
The first thing you want to do in this app is to add your interests. You have a choice of 60 popular categories or you can choose from all 506 total categories. Pick as many categories as you want then starting stumbling on the web. You will also want to add friends so you can stumble based on their interests and favorites.
There are actually many different way that you can start stumbling. The updated app has the explorer box in which you can start your stumbling by entering a phrase. You can pick a certain category which will display any news, photos, or videos on that category. If you want a mix of all your categories together then simply start by choosing news, photos, or videos. I found the video section to be a great way to discover new videos based on my interests without having to do so much browsing or searching in YouTube. There is a beta version of a stumble Apps to discover new apps for your device. I think it’s a great idea but I found it not to be working that well currently.
The new interface allows you to swipe left or right to bring up new content which has been optimized with faster page loading. On each stumble you can like or dislike much like Pandora so it can learn better about your interests. You have the option of sharing any content by email or to social sites. The comments & info on each stumble lets you comment and view the people who like this. This is a good way to discover new people that you want to follow based on the same interests.
Overall, StumbleUpon is a great way to discover new things on the web. The updated interface is clean and looks great on the tablet. Start stumbling and let us know what you think.
