The Nexus line of devices have done very well for Google and raised its brand awareness in hardware. The Nexus 5 phone has been a big hit and so has been the refreshed Nexus 7 tablet. But unfortunately the Nexus 10 tablet never sold well and has largely been forgotten. It was not clear if the tablet was going to be updated and who was going to make it. There were rumors of a 8-inch tablet which now have come true. Instead of an updated Nexus 10 or even a Nexus 8, we have the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition. This makes a nice 8-inch tablet running stock Android and it’s also ready for the holidays as well. Let’s take a closer look at the device.
By all marks the LG G Pad 8.3 looks to be a very nice premium designed tablet. It has a 8.3″ HD display with a high-resolution 1920 x 1200 running Android 4.4 KitKat. It has the added advantage of a microSD card which is lacking on official Nexus tablets and phones. You have a quad-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 600 with 2GB of RAM and a 4,600 mAh battery. There is both a front and rear camera and it comes in a light 8.3 mm and 338g. Since the devices is running stock Android, it should run very smoothly.
The device comes with 16 GB storage only at a price of $349. This puts it at just over a $100 more than the Nexus 7 and make it very competitive with the iPad mini retina at $399. It should make a great device for those wanting a tablet larger than 7″ but not the full size of 10″ tablet. In my opinion the 7-8″ is the perfect size for a tablet that let’s you read and yet have good viewing for movies. It’s also much more portable and easier to take with your to the mall or a coffee shop. Overall the LG G Pad 8.3 looks to be a great device and I won’t be too surprised if it sells well.
