Since the release of the Nexus 10 tablet, Google has been updating their apps to support the 10 inch form factor. Today, Google Currents was updated with a brand new interface. The old app was pretty stale and very unappealing, specially compared to the newer magazine apps like Flipboard and Zite. Google Currents version 2.0 brings many new UI enhancements that makes the app appealing and competitive.
The app displayed an edition sidebar that makes it easy to access all your subscriptions. The editions are categorized and each can be customized. The layout of the editions is much like Google+ with tiled articles and pictures. You can swipe vertically to scan the articles in each additions. A nice new feature is that you can swipe horizontally to move to the next or previous edition.
Sections in each edition can be accessed through a drop-down menu on the top-left. Articles can be saved for viewing at a later time. The app now also has a widget that is in the same style as the YouTube widget with tiles that you can swipe through. Overall, the new design looks great and is a major improvement over the previous version.
